Hi, i just installed a msd 6a ignition and a ford billet distributor #8582. I saw the number 1 on the distributor cap it was right next to a outlet for a plug. So i used that for my number 1 firing wire in my firing sequence is this correct? It must wrong because i have hooked everything up correctly but the engine just turns over every time when it generally starts right up. And what type of type of wires should i get? I want 8.5 but i need to be sure they will fit my #8582 standard distributor cap.
Thanks For your Help!!

If you replaced an existing distributor then you should have made a mark where the rotor was pointing to and then installed the MSD Distributor so that its rotor was pointing in the same direction. If you did that then the position of the wires on your original distributor would be the same for the new distributor. If you did not mark where the rotor was pointing then you will need to rotate the engine over until number one cylinder is at top dead center on the compression stroke. Then look to see which terminal on the cap the rotor is pointing to. This is now where your number one spark plug wire should be attached to. The follow the firing order to put the rest of the wires on the cap. That's it. For the 8.5mm MSD Wires you will want to use PN 35399. That set will fit your distributor cap with spark plug style towers.
