6530 Data acquisition problem
I have a very straightforward setup on a big block Mopar - 6530, Blaster II coil, 8546 distributor, 1 bar MAP sensor. Running 44 deg max timing locked out with run and boost retard curves, no other retards wired in.

Data acquisition is fine when I start the car - RPM and MAP sensor readings display in Pro Data software via serial port connection. After about a minute, it shows 0 RPM in the Run retard window, while Boost retard window continues to show the MAP output. The physical timing on the engine continues as programmed.

If I shut down and restart, same thing - RPM output for a minute or two, then 0. No problem as seen with timing light.

Is this a known issue or is it just a problem with this box?

it sounds like there is a problem with your computer. when you are experiencing these issues do you have the lap top inside the vehicle or outside? If inside then I suggest you take the lap top out of the vehicle and see what occurs then.

keep me posted

This happens outside, laptop sitting on the fender. I'm using the IOGear USB to serial converter recommended by MSD.

What's weird is that it's always the RPM signal that drops out, the boost signal is stable. Since it's a serial connection, you'd think that either both or neither would work if it's a connection problem. I tried another laptop, same thing.

No problems with programming, it's only with monitoring when running.

Cool setup btw, nice to have control over both centrifugal and vacuum advance - oops, run and boost retard. :tongue_smilie:

Any ideas to troubleshoot, or just go for a replacement?

post a pic of the install ( so maybe we can see something ) ..
but it sure sounds like alot of noise getting into the system.

I pulled the box off the firewall and let it sit on the cowl right above where it's mounted to the firewall. Made sure the data cable was tightened down. There were no problems after 15 minutes.

So it looks like it was just a connection problem. There's not a lot of room between the valve cover and firewall where I have to fit my hand to connect the cable.

Thanks for your help. :thumbup1:
